Alfred Emmanuel Burkart, 87, of Pine Mountain, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.
He was born on April 24, 1931, in Tiffin, Ohio to Edward B. and Emma Susan (Baker) Burkart. He married Alice L. Ruggiero May 2, 1953, and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia (Dan) Cook of Washington Court House, Ohio and Susan (Peter) Wade of Pine Mountain, Georgia; son, Steven (Dana) Burkart of Glen Ridge, New Jersey; three sisters, Rita Bursa of Tiffin, Elizabeth Fabrizio of Massachusetts and Judy (John) Hill of Marblehead; five grandchildren, Christopher (Cassie) Cook, Matthew Cook and Nicholas Cook of Washington Court House, Ohio, Alexandra Wade of Atlanta, Georgia and Natalie Burkart of Glen Ridge, New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; daughter, Jane; five brothers, Edward Jr., Jerry, George, James and Charles; and two sisters, Mary Louise Boehner and Susan Hemminger.
Alfred graduated in 1950 from Tiffin Calvert High School and worked for many years at H & S Inc. He retired from Tiffin City Schools as the Transportation Supervisor. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Pine Mountain, Georgia and was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Church in Tiffin where he married his high school sweetheart, Alice. He also was a member of the Men’s Choir for many years and was active in the Calvert High School Booster Club.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony Coci officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
