Fred Schmidt Obituary

Fred Ernest Schmidt, age 88, of Tiffin, OH and formerly of Erie, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital.

He was born on April 21, 1929, in Erie, PA, to the late Herbert E. and Viola (Gillespie) Schmidt.  Fred graduated from Strong Vincent High School and took courses in Production Control, Industrial Organization and Management from Penn State University.  He served with the United States Army inspection team in the occupation forces in Germany and Austria after WWII, attaining the rank of Sergeant.  Fred worked at Continental Rubber Works as an assistant manager of manufacturing, manager of production control and superintendent of molded goods, was a production manager at Erie Rubber Works, plant manager at Sterling Factories, Inc. and then did pharmaceutical deliveries for Pharmerica and MLi. 

Earlier in life, Fred was an avid golfer and member of Lake Shore Country Club.  Later in life, he enjoyed working in his yard and traveling with his wife, Annedore, before she passed away in 2008.

Along with his parents, his wife of 56 years, Annedore Möhle Schmidt and a daughter, Karen Bridget Schmidt, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughter, Heidi (Phillip) Brodman of Tiffin; granddaughter, Anna (Dan) Ranieri of Tiffin; grandson, 1LT Jacob Brodman of Petersburg, VA; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Ranieri and Oliver Ranieri.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 10:30 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 A.M. at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) Erie, PA 16506. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center, 670 E. SR 18, Tiffin, Ohio 44883.
