John Omlor Obituary

John W. “Jack” Omlor, 86, of Tiffin, and formerly of Sandusky, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 24, 2018, at St. Francis Home  surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 18, 1931, in Tiffin, Ohio, to William and Evelyn (Schroth) Omlor.  On February 20, 1960, he married Louise Fox and she preceded him in death on August 15, 2000.  On October 13, 2001, he married Mary Wilhelm Omlor.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Tiffin; sons, Tony (Diane) Omlor of Columbus, Joe ( Helen) Omlor of Shelby, NC, Peter (Heidi) Omlor of Ellsworth, ME and Bill (Lori) Omlor of Glenburn, ME; stepsons, Daniel (Kathy) Omlor of Dayton,  Gregory (Michele) Omlor of Akron, Timothy Omlor and Joseph Omlor, both of Columbus; stepdaughter, Jeanne ( Eugene) Heslin of Kingston, NY; brother, David (Susan) Omlor of Sandusky; sisters, Sylvia (Jim) Wade of Kansas, OH, Mary (Bob) Williams of Fostoria, Cora (Steven) Hepp, Ruth Omlor, Janet (Bob) Barger, all of Tiffin, and Barbara Ronski Quaintance of Fremont, OH;  sister-in-law, Nadine Omlor of Tiffin; 21 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, C. Thomas Omlor and James Omlor; sister, Pauline Scarr and infant sister, Carol Omlor.

Jack graduated in 1949 from Tiffin Calvert High School where he was the captain of the football team. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, in Germany, from October 11, 1951 to September 13, 1953. After discharge from the Army he went to nursing school in Chicago.  Jack was a Registered Nurse at Good Samaritan in Sandusky and then at New Departure for 26 years.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sandusky and St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin where he served Mass daily and sang in the choir. In Sandusky he and his wife started a soup kitchen and he volunteered for Care and Share. Jack was also a member of the Tiffin Moose #846, Knights of Columbus #608 and the Sandusky  V.F.W.  He enjoyed running daily, running 5K and 10K races, golfing, traveling, camping and yearly vacations in Florida. He also donated blood on a regular basis.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 11, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters and Rev. Frank Murd con-celebrating.  A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will be Saturday May 12, 2018 in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers/gifts family requests donations may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools, St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, St. Mary Catholic Church, Sandusky, or to St. Francis Home.
