Paul G. “Clutch” “Mike” Miletti, 90, of Tiffin, passed away on Sunday afternoon, September 24, 2017 at St. Francis Home.

He was born on January 2, 1927, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Michael and Alphonsine (Honore) Miletti.  On June 18, 1949, he married Sylvia Georgienne Linnert.

Survivors include his wife, Georgienne of Tiffin; four daughters, Kathryn (Michael) Miletti Kelbley of Tiffin, Nancy Uher of Columbus, Barb Farling of Findlay and Paula (Dale) Depew of Tiffin; sisters, Joann (Wayne) Moore and Patricia (Carl) Kern, both of Tiffin; and 10 grandchildren, Allisun, Elisabeth, Matthew, Jeffrey, Tim, Jon, Pam, Becca, Emily and Molly; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry J. Miletti; and sister, Eileen Arder.

In December of 1944, during his senior year of high school, Clutch entlisted into the United States Navy and served until he was honorably discharged in 1946.  While in the Navy, he finished high school.  In 1950, he graduated from Heidelberg College.  While at Heidelberg, he was a member of their football team.  His senior year he established a new mark when he scored four rushing touchdowns against Capital University.  There have been others who have matched that performance in the past 46 years, but no one has surpassed it.  Miletti was also a member of the unbeaten 1948 team and scored 10 rushing touchdowns.  That season he rushed for 679 yards and was named honorable mention All-Ohio by Associated Press, honorable mention INS All-Ohio and was honored by Capital University as a member of its All-Opponent first team.

Following graduation, he began an outstanding teaching and coaching career and served at Tiffin Calvert High School for 34 years before his retirement in 1989.   At Calvert, he was the head football coach for 10 years and coached the school’s only unbeaten teams in 1961 and 1965.  He compiled a record of 55-29-6.  He also coached basketball from 1958 to 1963.  Coach Miletti started the wrestling program at Calvert in 1964 and was head coach until 1977. He took the first Calvert wrestler to State Finals and had the best record in school history for a single season in 1968-1969 at 8-2.  Miletti’s overall record was 55-65-2 as wrestling coach.  One of Miletti’s major milestones as a coach came in golf in 1982, when he led the team to the sectional title, a district runner-up finish and a fifth place performance in the state.

In 1983, he received the “Certificate of Appreciation” from The Ohio High School Athletic Association and the Calvert Field House was named “Paul Miletti Field House”.  He was inducted into the Heidelberg Hall of Fame in 1995 and into the Calvert Hall of Fame in 1993.  In 2013, he received the Outstanding Educator Award.

Since 1989, the Miletti Golf Open has been held, which supports Calvert boys and girls athletics.  After retirement, he enjoyed vacationing in Florida for many years.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at St. Francis Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Walters officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
