Phyllis A. Kauffman, 87, Tiffin, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born on October 8, 1929, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Raymond and Florence (Frary) Ranker.  On October 23, 1948, in St. Mary Catholic Church, she married Eugene F. “Gene” Kauffman. 

Survivors include her husband, Gene of Tiffin; sons, Steve (Trudy) Kauffman and Rick (Patty) Kauffman, both of Tiffin; daughters, Sharon (Tom) Farris and Sue Kauffman, both of Tiffin and Sandy Gernert of Bloomville; brother, Mervin Ranker of Tiffin; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandson in August.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert Ranker and Ray Ranker; sisters, Jean Elchert,  Mary Lafontaine, Marjorie Dietz-Chriswell and Mildred Comer; son-in-law, Greg Gernert; and granddaughter, Denise Kauffman in 1994.

Phyllis graduated in 1947 from Tiffin Calvert High School.  While at Calvert, she and her husband Gene were high school sweethearts and she was a cheerleader.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards, pinochle, sewing, interior designing, puzzles, crosswords, baking for her family and traveling to Arizona, Florida, Hawaii and California.  Phyllis was the world’s best housewife and she loved spending time with her family.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Hofffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.

Memorial contributions may be made to F.A.C.T., the Humane Society of Seneca County or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
