Rita Clara Ranieri, 94, of Tiffin, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, September 6, 2017 at St. Francis Home.

She was born on November 29, 1922, in Tiffin, Ohio to William J. and Emma (Johnson) Schock.  On October 21, 1950, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, she married Dominic G. Ranieri and he preceded her in death on March 21, 2011. 

Survivors include four sons, Dr. Paul William (Mary Lynn) Ranieri of Muncie, IN, Christopher Joseph (Susan) Ranieri of Tiffin, Dr. Gerard Julio (Marybeth) Ranieri of Woodbridge, VA and Retired Major Anthony Martin (Amy) Ranieri of San Antonio, TX; two daughters, Jane Frances (William) Phillips of Toledo and Maria Veronica (Terence) Robinson of Tiffin; brother, Anthony (Lucille) Schock of Attica; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Dominic Charles Ranieri; brothers, Clarence, Daniel, Benjamin and William Schock; sisters, Lena Daniel, Sister Mary Camillus, OSF, Veronica Schock,  Evelyn Schultz and Joan Obringer; and granddaughter, Rebecca Ranieri.

Rita said meeting her husband, Dominic in 1950 was a miracle and after 92 days, they were married. She worked on her family’s farm for many years and was an assistant at Dr. Fred Jennings office from 1946 to 1951.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rosary Altar Society, where she was President from 1982 to 1984, Catholic United for the Faith, volunteered at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin and St. Joseph Catholic School, was past President of Mother’s Study Club from 1968 to 1969 and was a promoter and guardian of Our Lady of Fatima Statue since 1983.  Rita loved all animals, especially her dog Bandit, enjoyed horseback riding on her horse, Silver, reading, loved to travel the world with her husband, especially their trip to the Vatican where they met Pope John Paul II.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.    

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 3-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.  A Christian Wake Service will begin at 8:00 P.M.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at St. Francis Home specifically those of 2 West and  Elmwood at the Shawhan and a special thank you to Shelly, Joanne, Theresa, Kathy and so many others for the care they provided to Rita and Dominic over the years.
