Clair F. Schlachter, 84, of New Riegel, passed away Saturday evening, February 3, 2018 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital.
On December 8, 1933 in Seneca County, he was born to Virgil and Audrey (Spitler) Schlachter. He married Helen L. Bishop on August 27, 1955 and she preceded him in death in 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Louise (Steve) Ritter of Fostoria; brothers, Keith Schlachter of Toledo; Glenn Schlachter of Defiance; sisters, Alice Smith, Nancy (Donald) Kuhlman, and Faye (Laron) Baker all of New Riegel; three grandchildren, Misty (Jerry) Connolly and Heather Ritter both of Carey; Maddie Ritter of Findlay and three great grandchildren, Ivy, Lily, and Trey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son; Larry Schlachter in 1993.
Clair graduated from New Riegel High School in 1951 and retired from American Standard after 40 years. He enjoyed hunting around the area and in Pennsylvania with friends, fishing and camping at Lake Erie, driving go-karts, playing baseball, softball and drinking a few beers with friends at his house after the games. He was one of the founding members of the Seneca County Coon Hunters.
A private family graveside service will be at Seneca Memory Gardens.
Memorial may be made to the New Riegel EMS.
