Donald W. Roberts, 89, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at St. Francis Home.
He was born on February 13, 1929, in Clinton Twp., to William “Steeple Jack” and Katherine (Lonnemann) Roberts. On April 23, 1955, he married Barbara Shultz.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Tiffin; sons, Thomas E. (Kelly) Roberts of Texas and Christopher A. (Kathy) Roberts of Ottawa, Ohio; daughter, Lori Martin of Tiffin; sister, Jane Miller of Tiffin; and two grandchildren, Nicole and Rachel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Roberts, Jack Roberts, E. James Roberts, Calvin “Babe” Roberts, Alvin Roberts and Charles “Sunny” Roberts; and sister, M. Virginia Mendlein.
Donald graduated in 1947 from Tiffin Calvert High School and served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany from 1948 to 1951. He was honorably discharged on August 5, 1952. He worked at National Machinery, Kreim Plumbing & Heating and retired in 1999 from Dundore Plumbing & Heating. Donald was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, was a private pilot for years, amateur radio operator and enjoyed repairing radios, building and flying model airplanes and was a NASCAR fan.
His funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Frank Murd officiating.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
