Frederick Vincent Elchert, Sr., Age 95, of New Riegel, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2019, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 16, 1924 in New Riegel to Peter E. and Antionetta (Huss) Elchert. On June 2, 1945, he married Rose M. Scherger in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Millersville and she preceded him in death on January 12, 1991. He then married Anna M. (Daniel) Bouillon in St. Boniface Church on September 17, 1993 and she survives.
Survivors Include his wife Anna; four daughters, Jane (Robert) Clouse, Rose Ann (Tim) Cornett and Ruth Wade all of Tiffin and Lori (Chuck) Austerberry of Chesaning, Michigan; stepchildren, Marie (Gary) Schalk, Randall (Michiko) Bouillon, Kristine (Jeff) Lucius all of New Riegel, Betty Hammer of Helena, and Sharon (Jeff) Perry of Tiffin; daughters-in-law, Ginny Elchert of North Carolina and Brenda Elchert of New Riegel; 22 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; 18 step grandchildren; and 9 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rose; sons, Frederick V. Elchert, Jr. and William M. Elchert; four brothers, Edmund, Gerald, Richard and Loren; three sisters, Valeria Bentz, Bertha Rogier and Irene Walters; granddaughter, Annette Allison; son-in-law, Robert Wade; and step son-in-law, Ken Hammer
Frederick graduated from New Riegel High School in 1942 and was a lifetime farmer. He was a Big Spring Twp trustee for 24 years, school bus driver and clerked for auctions. Frederick was a member of All Saints Parish New Riegel, served on St. Boniface Parish Council, was a member of Catholic Knights of Ohio for 50 plus years (now Catholic Order of Foresters), Knights of Columbus Council #608 Tiffin, New Riegel Moose Lodge #872, where he was past Governor, Tiffin Eagles #402, New Riegel Young Farmers and Sandusky River Coonhunters. He was a member of the New Riegel 1941 State Runner-Up baseball team, past President of the New Riegel Parent Teachers Association and an honorary FFA member.
His Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 22, 2019 at All Saints Parish at the New Riegel site with Rev. Timothy Kummerer and Fred’s nephew, Rev. Gary Walters concelebrating. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery.
