Greg N. Merryfield

Gregory Nicolas “Greg” Merryfield, 30, of Republic, passed away Sunday morning, August 19, 2018 suddenly after living with a congenital heart disease his entire life.

He was born on December 12, 1987, in Tiffin, to Donald and Barbara Jean (Nicolas) Merryfield. 

He is survived by his parents, Donald and Barbara Jean Merryfield of Republic; brother, Aaron (fiancé’ Charlene Wears) Merryfield of Bucyrus; sister, Melinda Louise (Mike) Watkins of Elyria; grandfather, Robert Nicolas of Tiffin; and nieces and nephews, Natalie Rose Merryfield and Maxwell and Samantha Watkins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald J. and Elizabeth Merryfield and Claralice Nicolas.

Greg graduated in 2006 from Seneca East High School and from Terra State with an associate’s degree in Computer Science.  He was a computer technician for Bascom Telephone Company for about 10 years.  Greg had his first open heart surgery when he was just 12 years old, his second when he was 15 years old and his third surgery when he was 20 years old.  He was a member of Republic United Church of Christ, Eagle Scout #442 and later The Order of Arrow and he enjoyed going to flea markets, watching movies, driving around, and loved his dog Peaches.  Greg was close with his family and was very generous. 

His funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Darla Metz officiating.  Burial will follow in Farewell Retreat, Republic.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Congenital Heart Association.
