Kenneth C. “Duffer” Tiell, 71, of Fostoria, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at his country home.
He was born on January 11, 1948, in Tiffin, Ohio to Francis E. “Tootie” and Mary Magdalene (Hammer) Tiell. On February 27, 1971, he married Carol Kleinfelter.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Tiell of Fostoria; son, Greg (Caroline ) Tiell of Orlando; daughters, Michelle (Brian) Huff of Lancaster and Stacy (fiancé Rich Maladecki) Crosby of Orlando; brothers, Edward F. (Julia) Tiell of New Riegel, Jim W. Tiell of Bascom, Bill L. Tiell of Fostoria, Ron J. (Jean) Tiell of Fostoria, Dan J. (Deb) Tiell of New Riegel, Jerry E. (Susie) Tiell of Fostoria and Tom A. Tiell of Tiffin; sisters, Janet T. (Norm) Meyer of Ottawa, Pat K. Tiell of Fostoria, Barb J. (Dan) Sauber of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Mary Katherine (Michael) Kurtz of Findlay; and six grandchildren, Cameron Huff, McKenzie Huff, Lydia Crosby, Noah Crosby and twins, Derrick Tiell and Elias Tiell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lewis “Sonny” Tiell; and sisters, infant Jean Elizabeth Tiell and Rose Ann Tiell.
Kenneth graduated in 1967 from New Riegel High School and was drafted into the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 and was honorably discharged in 1970. Kenneth worked at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria for over forty years, later retiring and also farmed the family farm. He was a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel and was on their maintenance committee and was a 50-year member of the New Riegel American Legion. He was an Ohio State University and Cleveland Indians fan, enjoyed working in his shop, showing his 1948 Ford Antique tractor at shows, watching Gunsmoke every day, was a handyman, talented carpenter and loved to help others. Kenneth loved his family and his grandchildren were his life.
His Funeral Mass will be at 2:30 P.M. on Monday, August 19, 2019 at All Saints Parish at the New Riegel site with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the New Riegel American Legion Post 354. The family would like to continue celebrating Ken’s life at the New Riegel Legion following the Mass and Burial.
