Mary Gillespie Obituary

Mary A. Gillespie, 90, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at her home.

She was born on July 3, 1929, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Irven and Jessie (Haight) Hayes.  On October 23, 1947, she married John W. Gillespie and he preceded her in death in 1991.

Survivors include her son, John R. Gillespie of Dayton; daughters, Linda J. (Richard) Russell of Marblehead, Carol S. Bagent of Tiffin, Patti A. Gillespie of Tiffin, Jane M. (Mike) Sanders of Grove City and Jodi (Rodrick) Kirby of Bloomville; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, James, Laverne, Harold, Floyd, Donald and Irven, Jr.

Mary graduated in 1947 from Tiffin Calvert High School and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  She was the co-owner, with her husband John, of Johnny’s Hamburger Shop on Madison Street and then Mary and John’s Grill on S. Sandusky Street until 2009.   They were famous for their burgers and home fries.  Mary enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, trips to Las Vegas, social time at McDonalds in the mornings and evenings, shopping, dressing up and celebrating the holidays, family time, especially spending time with her grandchildren, loved her “fur babies” and had a great sense of humor.

Her Funeral Service will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 A.M. until the time of the Service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to F.A.C.T., St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Humane Society of Seneca County.
