Philip Kuhn Obituary

Philip J. Kuhn, 88, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday afternoon in Findlay at Bridge Hospice Findlay Care Center.

He was born on December 22, 1930 in Tiffin to Herman and Christine (Wagner) Kuhn.  He married Shirley Mohler and they divorced.

Survivors include his sons, Jeffrey (Linda) Kuhn of Ashburn, VA; Andrew (Debra) Kuhn of Tiffin; three grandchildren, Josh Kuhn of Fairfax, VA; Brett (Heather) Staib of Fredericksburg, VA; Haley (David) Hepp of Marion, OH; four great grandchildren, Hudson, Brennan, and Brookelyn Staib and Rowan Hepp; sister, Gini Kuhn of Denver, CO; brother in law, Merle Ranker of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Ranker.

Philip graduated from Tiffin Calvert in 1949, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 serving as a B-29 Crewman Gunner with the 307th Bomber Wing, Strategic Air Command (SAC) and flying 26 missions over Korea.  He was honorably discharged in 1953, receiving the Air Medal.  Over the years, Phil has maintained contact with and was very proud of his service and his fellow B-29 crewmembers.  Phil was involved in civil surveying and construction layout with many construction projects across Northwest Ohio; starting in the 1950’s through the 1990’s.  He later retired from Construction Laborer Local #480 in Sandusky.

He was a lifetime member of the Tiffin Am Vets Post 48, American Legion Post 169, Sandusky VFW Post 2529, Air Force Gunners Association, Korean War Veterans Association, and the 307th Bomb Wing Association.  He was also a member of the DAV Commanders Club, Strategic Air Command Society, U.S. Aviation Museum, Buckeye State Sheriffs Association, and Laborers Local 480 in Sandusky.

Phil was raised on firm traditional values that he passed onto his children and grandchildren.  He was a generous and caring man who was always there for you.  He loved to read, especially about American History, natural history, and the American west.  His natural curiosity took him to the back roads of America and enabled him to study the world around him.
