Rev. William "Bill" H. Smith

Rev. William “Bill” Harry Smith, 80, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday evening November 24, 2019, at St Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio.

William Harry Smith, the son of the late Mr. Arthur and Mrs. Stella (Frey) Smith, was born November 14, 1939, in Collinsville, Illinois. He was baptized in St. John Evangelical United Church of Christ of Collinsville, Illinois. He graduated from Collinsville High School, Collinsville, Illinois in 1957.

William and Carol Ann Updike were married June 12, 1965, in St. John United Church of Christ, Collinsville, Illinois. Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Illinois.

In 1966, William received the Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Illinois. On June 6, 1969, he received his Masters of Divinity degree from Eden Theological Seminary, Webster Groves, Missouri.

The Reverend and Mrs. Smith began their ministry on July 1, 1969, in Peace United Church of Christ, Jerseyville, Illinois and United Church of Christ, Fieldon, Illinois. Rev. Smith next served the Peace United Church of Christ in New Salem, North Dakota. He then served the Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin, Ohio, followed by Interim Pastor at Union United Church of Christ in Bascom, Ohio and St. John’s United Church of Christ of Fostoria, Ohio. He was serving as Pastor at First United Church of Christ in Findlay, Ohio.

Rev. & Mrs. Smith have two daughters, Kristi Krintzline, husband Chris, and Kari Smith. They are proud grandparents to two grandsons, Aidan and Alex Krintzline, and he is also survived by a sister, Louise “Sis” Rudis.

Rev. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, LaVern and Arthur Smith.

His Memorial Service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at First United Church of Christ in Findlay, 2100 Greendale Ave., Findlay, Ohio 45840 with Rev. David Culp officiating.  

Friends may visit with the family from 4-7:00 P.M. on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 and an hour prior to service at First United Church of Christ in Findlay.
