Obituary

Alan P. Burns, 75, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 29, 1936, in Tiffin, to Edward "Pepper" and Helen (Baumgardner) Burns, both of whom are now deceased. He married the love of his life, Yolanda "Kathy" Remsberg, Feb. 11, 1961, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin, and she survives.

Also surviving are their four children, Janene (Ron Stien) Burns of Tiffin, Donna (Mark) Shriner of Republic, Terri (Jim) Renninger of Tiffin, and Alan (Penny) Burns II of Tiffin; 16 grandchildren, Robert Fowler, Jennifer Fowler, Verlin Perkins, William Perkins, John (Chelsea Hickman) Bair, Sasha Bair, Sherrill (Jaime Penwell) Bair, Sheena Renninger, Anthony Renninger, Will Renninger, Cody Burns, Gage Burns, Gillian Burns, Courtney Boyd, Travis Boyd and Dylan Boyd; seven great-grandchildren, Alex Bair, Kendlyn Bair, Blaize McCory, Abel McCory, Trey-von Schneider, Kaitlyn Koehler and Jamie Bair; two brothers, Tom Burns of Tiffin and Richard (Nancy) Burns of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Carolyn (Gene) Hoover of Tiffin; a sister-in-law, LaDonna Burns of Tiffin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Robert and Esther Remsberg; and three brothers, Paul, Gene and his wife Marge, and Carol "Bucky" Burns.

Alan retired from the city of Tiffin after 29 years of service with the street department.
He also had previously worked for Tiffin Glass and National Machinery in Tiffin.

Alan was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin and was a social member of the VFW No. 2858 in Tiffin.
After his retirement, Alan enjoyed being outside, feeding his squirrels, fishing, playing euchre and watching sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Above all, Alan loved to spend time with his family.

A memorial service will be Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:30 am at Seneca Memory Gardens with Rev. Michael Roemmele officiating.
