Alfred "Al" E. Benner, 81, of Tiffin passed away Monday evening, December 19, 2011 at his home.

On October 19, 1930, in Tiffin, Ohio, he was born to Jerome and Agnes (Smith) Benner. On April 14, 1951, he married Marlene Griffin and she preceded him in death. On June 22, 1999, he married Hazel Flamion Harpe and she survives.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel; son, Jim (Carol) Benner of Carey, Ohio; step-son, Ron Harpe of Tiffin, Ohio; daughter, Terri (Jerry) Wise of McCutchenville, Ohio; step-daughter, Karen Kuhn of Tiffin, Ohio; brother, Gerald Benner of Kentucky; sisters, Martha Alspach of Tiffin, Ohio and Margarette (Dick) Sartor of Michigan; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death is an infant son, Mike Benner; brother, Norman Benner and sisters, Aline Mayer, Bernita Kemp and Mildred Piechoki.

Al retired from American Standard after 35 years. He was a member of the Tiffin Amvets and the Tiffin Moose. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, boating, fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He also enjoyed animals.

A funeral service will be Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424, with Chaplain Dave Gowen, officiating. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Garden Cemetery, Tiffin.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 12:30-1:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
