Alice E. Shrode, 79, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday evening, March 7, 2012 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.
She was born on August 16, 1932, in Little Mexico, Ohio, to Noah and Gladys (Hayman) Spitler. In November of 1952, she married John C. Shrode and he preceded her in death on August 3, 1963.
Survivors include four sons, James C. (Linda) Shrode, John C. (Karen) Shrode, Jr, and Larry K. Shrode, all of Tiffin, Ohio, and Timothy C. Shrode of New Vienna, Ohio; one daughter, Deborah (Ronald) Erfman of Bowling Green, Ohio; three sisters, Joyce Holmer and Peg Spitler, both of Tiffin, Ohio, and Maxine Philbrook of Cardington, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Terri Shrode, of Tiffin, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Wayne L. "Junior" Shrode; and three brothers, Tom, Ray and Bill Spitler.
Alice retired in 1994, after 14 years as executive director, for Seneca County Red Cross. She worked at Tiffin Ace Hardware and Porter Motors and volunteered for Muscular Dystrophy. She was a lifetime member of Seneca County Fireman's Association. Alice enjoyed reading and gardening.
Her funeral will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday March 10, 2012 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424, with Pastor Doug DeVos officiating. Burial will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery, New Riegel, Ohio.
Friends may visit with the family from 10-12:00 noon on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the funeral home.
