Armin C. Kiesel, 90, of Tiffin passed away Sunday afternoon, June 26, 2011 at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.
He was born July 6, 1920 in Hopewell Township to Carl G. & Alma (Staib) Kiesel. He married Helen J. Bibbee on November 22, 1947. His beloved wife passed away on October 12, 2005.
Survivors include his sons, John Kiesel and his wife Elizabeth Buko of Bloomville, OH, Scott (Stacey) Kiesel of New Riegel, OH; daughters, Dr. Nancy Kiesel and her husband Dr. Michael Curran of Kensington, MD, and Rosemary K. Mills of Nokesville, VA; brothers, Lloyd J. (Velma) Kiesel and Harvey J. (Hilda) Kiesel, both of Tiffin, OH; Eight grandchildren, 1st Lt. John Mills, U.S. Army of Fort Bliss, TX and Lt. Stephanie Mills, U.S. Navy of Norfolk, VA, Christopher and Carl Curran, Megan Fredritz of Carey, Matthew, Paul and Andrew Kiesel and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Anna Mary Goetz.
Armin was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Tiffin and a 1938 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy February 9, 1942 and was an aviation petty officer working on PBY Catalina Seaplanes aboard the U.S.S. Tangier, serving in the Pacific. Armin was honorably discharged on November 26, 1945. He was a life long dairy farmer in the New Riegel area and later the custodian for the Seneca County Public Library retiring in 1992. Armin volunteered his time to the Jerusalem Cemetery as a trustee for over fifty years, was a member of the Seneca County Farm Bureau and a supporter of 4-H with his children. He enjoyed woodworking; making many treasures for his family, watching sports on t.v., gardening, yard work, sewing (especially handmade mittens), baking and visiting with family out of state. Armin had a memorable opportunity enjoying a Tiger Cruise on the U.S.S. Saratoga with his grandson. Over the years, he had a special relationship with Matthew, his grandson, restoring his antique Farmall B and H tractors.
Graveside services will be Friday, July 1, 2011 at 10:30 am at Jerusalem Cemetery in New Riegel, OH with Pastor, Mark Brodbeck officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 pm Thursday, June 30, 2011 and 9:00-10:00 am Friday, July 1, 2011 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419)447-2424.
