Obituary

Arthur "Art" Schleter, 90, of Tiffin, passed away early Saturday morning, January 4, 2014 at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.


He was born on June 7, 1923, in Seneca County, to George and Emma (Giesken) Schleter. He married Margaret Gaietto on October 12, 1946 she survives.


Survivors also include two sons, Mark A. (Denise) Schleter of Fostoria, OH and Michael L. Schleter of Tiffin, OH; 4 grandchildren, Matthew (Abby) Schleter of Austin, TX, Andrew Schleter Tuscan, AZ, Michael Schleter of Columbus, OH, Michelle (Tom) Junk of Columbus, OH; 4 great - grandchildren, Ellie and Evan Junk of Columbus, OH, Owen and Franko Schleter of Buenos Aries, Argentina; brother and sister in-laws, Sr. M. Angela Gaietto of Toledo, OH, Lawrence Gaietto of Lima, OH, Louise Gaietto of Tiffin, OH, Thomas (Mary) Gaietto of Tiffin, OH, Ivan Hill of Tiffin, OH, Darlene Gaietto of Paris, TN; and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and his wife, Joseph (Cecilia) Schleter; three sisters and their husbands, Angela (William) Renninger, Ella (Royal) Hoover, Alice (William) Shafer; brothers and sisters in-law, Sr. M. Merici, Margaret and Vincent, Thelma Gaietto, Margaret Ann Gaietto, Joseph Gaietto, Eugene and Arlene Gaietto, Irma Rose Hill.


Art was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and graduated for Tiffin Calvert High School in 1941. He enlisted and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in 1942, where he earned the rank of Corporal, during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Art worked for Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a lineman and later retired from A T&T. He was a member of American Legion Post #169, VFW Post #2858, DAV, Toledo Telephone Pioneers and the Seneca County Farm Bureau.


His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters, Rev. Christopher Bazzar and his Nephew and God Son, Rev. Edward Schleter officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the United Veterans Services of Seneca County.


Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 and at Hoffmann-Gottfried Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.


Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Calvert Catholic Schools, Sisters of St. Francis or Ursuline Sisters of Toledo.
