Arthur Clase Immele, 98, of Tiffin, OH, passed away Friday morning, February 1 2013 at St. Francis Home.
He was born on January 19, 1915 in Tiffin, OH to Joseph A. and Mary P. (Ross) Immele. On September 4, 1937, he married Marian B. Kamp.
Survivors include one son, Robert "Bob" Immele of Glendale, AZ; two daughters, Margaret "Peg" (Ed) Murphy of Blufton, OH and Martha (Ernie) Boyer of Lima, OH; son-in-law, Kandy Matthew Cameron of Tiffin, OH; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and special friends and companions, Lolita and John Chapman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marian; son, Michael Immele; daughters, Marilyn Hill and Elizabeth Cameron; daughter-in-law, Lillian Immele; brother, James "Ray" Immele, infant brother, Joseph Immele and a grandson, Joseph Immele.
Arthur graduated from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1933 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arthur taught CCD for 13 years at St. Joseph and Calvert High School. He was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister including communion to the homebound and a member of the parish council. He was a 4th Degree K of C member and Grand Knight. He was a charter member of St. Joseph Federal Credit Union and volunteered many years at the St. Joseph Festival.
He worked in the shipyards in Galveston, Texas during WWII returning to Tiffin in 1944. Arthur started the Local 357 plumbers union and later joined with Local 50 in Toledo. He was a member, treasurer, and blood drive chairman for the American Red Cross and donated 32 gallons of blood. He was also a board member of the Seneca County Commission on Aging.
Arthur was very active in Boy Scouts; especially with Troop 444. He was a scout master for 25 years and designed many of the patches earned by the scouts. He served on many committees for scouts; district, council and diocesan. Arthur built and designed the Seneca Sam cabin at Camp Berry, earning him the nickname "Seneca Sam" and he was known by all the scouts. He earned the Boy Scout Silver Beaver in the old Put-Han-Sen Council and St. George in the Toledo Diocese; the highest recognition in scouts. He also was on the board and local cookie chair for the Girl Scouts of America. Arthur loved fishing everywhere and loved the outdoors; especially camping and hiking.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, February 11, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka and Re. Thomas Oedy con-celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to mass.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-7:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian Wake service will begin at 1:45 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Black Swamp Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, Findlay, OH or to the family in care of the funeral home.
