Byron H. Shimel, 90, of Tiffin, died Friday morning, March 21, 2008, at his home. On March 19, 1918, he was born in Detroit, MI., to John and Ella (Sutherland) Shimel. On August 18, 1961, he married Mary J. Sullivan.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary, three sons, Darrell (Norma) Shimel of CA, Mike (Pamela) Biller of MI, Larry (Deborah) Shimel of Maumee, two daughters, Jean, (Robert) Byerley of CA, Holly (Craig) Laskey of MI, two brothers, John (Marion) Shimel of MI; Keith Shimel of AL; a sister, Ann McGowan of MI, 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death along with his parents, are a daughter, Donna Tibbits, a sister, Helen Bittock and three grandchildren.
Byron was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church and retired in 1983, after 15 years as a tool and die maker at Autolite in Fostoria. He enlisted in the Michigan State Troops for over 10 years and was an Odd Fellow. He and his wife wintered in Kentucky for many years and enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, and bowling.
Memorial Services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Harmony United Methodist Church with a Pastor Don Young officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will follow in Mexico Cemetery, Wyandot County.
