Carl "Manfred" Harlett, 93, of Tiffin, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Fostoria Community Hospital.
On May 25, 1918, in New Riegel, Ohio, he was born to Francis and Johana (Hemelgarn) Harlett. He married Marcellene "Marcie" Thiry on September 2, 1940.
Survivors include his wife, Marcie; two daughters, Nancy Harlett of Tiffin, OH and Roselyn (James) Schieda of Rocky River, Ohio; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janine Lortz; three brothers, Constantine, Alphonz and Arthur Harlett; three sisters, Olga Backs, Mildred Manglitz and Julianna Kern; and one granddaughter, Laura Keefe.
Manfred graduated from Calvert High School in 1936 and later, Tiffin University. He retired in 1981 after working as the general manager at Tiffin Metal and at Pettibone. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a collector of Zane Gray Novels and was a well known winemaker.
A mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walter officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to mass. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors conducted by the Seneca County United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 2-5:00 p.m. at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419)447-2424. A wake service will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Commission on Aging and the Humane Society.
