Carl Thomas 'Jake' Welter, of Medina, a Tiffin resident for 85 years, died at Western Reserve Community on July 16, 2008, at the age of 93. He had resided at Western Reserve in Medina for the past eight years.
Carl was born January 28, 1915, in Tiffin, the beloved son of the late Bertha Warnement and John Baptist Welter. He was married to his sweetheart, Virginia Marie (Kerr) Welter for 65 years. She predeceased him in 2003.
He was a loving father of four children, Barbara (Jack) Markel of Marco Island, FL, Chuck (Jan) Welter of Pisgah Forest, NC, Patrick (Patricia) Welter of Chandler, AZ, and Terrie (Jim) Getz of Medina, beloved grandfather of 17 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 33.
Mr. Welter graduated from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1934 where he was co-captain of the football and basketball teams. He attended the University of Dayton on an athletic scholarship and played three sports, football, basketball, and baseball. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a dairy farmer and loved to fish at his pond with his grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Monday, July 21, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Eric Cullen officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family 6-8 PM, Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made on behalf of Carl Welter in memory of his sister, Sr. Margaret Welter, to the Ursuline Convent of the Sacred Heart, 4045 Indian Rd., Toledo, OH 43606.
