Obituary

Carol Ann Yager, 72, of Tiffin, passed away on Thursday morning, January 7, 2016 at her home.

She was born on December 20, 1943, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to Michael and Stella (Fil) Serafin. On June 25, 1966, in Neffs, Ohio, she married Dr. Robert M. Yager, and he preceded her in death on December 26, 2012.

Survivors include her mother, Stella of Salem, Ohio; two daughters, Susan (Bryan) Smith of Tiffin and Angela (Jeff) Bennett of Powell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Carl E. and Elaine Yager, of Tiffin; brother, David Serafin of Salem; two brothers-in-law, Tom (Andy Baker) Yager of Westerville and Jack (Judy) Yager of Fort Myers, FL; sister-in-law, Sue (Steve) Snavely of Republic; six grandchildren, Drew, Payge, Brooke and Zayne Smith and Evan and Sydney Bennett; many nieces and nephews and special friends Barb and Dave Spitler of Tiffin, and Penny Harris of Pittsburgh, PA.

She was also preceded in death by her father.

Carol graduated from St. John's Central High School in Bellaire, and then received her bachelor's degree from Ohio University in mathematics and library science. She taught at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Grove City and Saint Mathias in Columbus. It was there that she met Bob at Scioto Down's racetrack. They were married and moved to Tiffin to start his dental practice and their family. Carol was an ardent promoter of Tiffin. She received the 2009 Tiffin Area Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen Award which acknowledged her many contributions to the community. These included establishing Meals on Wheels, setting up a library at Krout School, owning and operating The Treasure Chest quilt shop, owning and presiding over Crystal Traditions of Tiffin glass shop, organizing the Seneca County Convention and Visitor's Bureau, and developing Tiffin's Little Box Shops. In 2014, Carol received the Heidelberg, Patricia Adam's Lecture Series award for Established Entrepreneurs with her Crystal Tradition's business partner, Judy Smith. Recently, Carol held the title of Marketing Director for Destination Seneca County, and she truly enjoyed that position. Carol relished her role as grandmother or "BaBa" and frequented her grandchildren's sports, music, and art events.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka and Rev. Frank Murd co-celebrating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
