Obituary

Charles Joseph Burkart, 86, of Tiffin, passed away on Wednesday evening, November 30, 2016 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.

He was born on January 1, 1930, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Edward B. and Emma Susan (Baker) Burkart. On October 27, 1951, he married Beverly A. Decker and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2007.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Donna) Burkart and Daniel (Mary) Burkart, both of Tiffin; daughter, Charla (Robert) Van Osdol of Tiffin; brother, Alfred Burkart of Georgia; three sisters, Rita Bursa of Tiffin, Elizabeth Fabrizio of MA, and Judy (John) Hill of Marblehead; six grandchildren, Nathan (Alyssa) Moore of Ponte Vedra, FL, Jamie (Beth) Moore of Jacksonville, FL, Erin (George) Morgan, Alison, Josef and Kristoffer Burkart, all of Tiffin; and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; four brothers, Edward, Jr., Jerry, George and Jim; and two sisters, Mary Louise Boehner and Susan Hemminger.

Charles graduated in 1949 from Tiffin Calvert High School, worked at McNeal Tree Service for many years, at Asphlundh for years and helped many others on the side. He served in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1953 and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, was a church usher and was also a member of Tiffin Amvets Post #48. Charles enjoyed going to casino's, flea markets and traveling with his wife.

His funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.

The family would like to thank the staff at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center for the care they gave to Charles the last five years.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-5:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the funeral home.
