Obituary

Charles "Chick" Fowler, 84, of Tiffin passed away Saturday morning, July 10, 2010 at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.

On June 4, 1926 in Tiffin, he was born to Laurel "Slim" and Della (Sours) Fowler. He married Dorothy Gilliland on February 14, 1948.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of 62 years, a son, Mark Fowler of Tiffin; daughter, Pam (Dennis) Kelbley of rural Fostoria; two granddaughters, Missie and Jessi Kelbley both of rural Fostoria; sisters, Agnes Perry, Jean Perry, and a brother, Robert Fowler all of Tiffin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Catherine Welter.

Chick was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ where he served as Deacon, Elder, Past President of Church Council, several years as church Treasurer, founding member of the Trinity Twosomes and Keenagers and a life member of VFW Post 2858. He graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1944 and from Tiffin University in 1946 and started his career in 1946 with Sterling Grinding Wheel Co. and ITT Abrasive Products until 1972. Owned Chick's Carryout and Brunner's Food Market from 1966 through 1975 and in 1972 he became the head accountant at Ruttmann Construction Co. in Upper Sandusky until his retirement in 1985. On January 31, 1992 he was part owner of SAN-CON, Inc. in Upper Sandusky. Chick served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.

Chick also liked flowers and gardening, loved to play cards and travel and his granddaughters were the love of his life.

A funeral service will be Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Trinity United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Louis Dorsch officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 4-8 PM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., 419-447-2424.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, St. Francis Home, Community Hospice Care, or Habitat for Humanity of Seneca County.
