Charles A. "Charlie" Schrier, 63, of Tiffin, passed away Monday evening, November 7, 2016 at Bridge Hospice in Findlay.
On August 13, 1953 in LaPorte, IN, he was born to Henry and Kathleen (Cowgill) Schrier. He married Barbara Peterson on September 7, 1974.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, his daughters, Julie (Justin) Bird of Tiffin; Hailey (Jason) Daniels of Elida; Charlee (Zachary) Ziegler of Fostoria; a brother, Ronald Schrier, sisters, Patricia (Wendell) Wiltfong and Cindy (Chris) Koepke all of LaPorte, IN; Lauri (Calvin) Chapman of South Bend, IN; nine grandchildren, Marcus, Ryan and Emma Bird; Jaxson, Lucas and Grant Daniels; Grady, Kyler, and Allison Ziegler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Robert, Donald and Henry Schrier.
Charlie graduated from LaPorte High School in 1972, enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. in 1972-1974 serving in Cuba and Puerto Rico. After serving his country, he attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, graduating in 1976. He was the Chief of Police for nine years in Kingsford Heights, IN and with the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department. He was a dispatcher for the Seneca County Sheriff's Department a few years and retired from Seneca Millwork in 2014. He enjoyed watching deer from his pick up, camping, driving his golf cart around, working outside and most of all mowing his lawn. Charlie loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.
His funeral service will be Friday, November 11, 2016 at 11:00 am at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Dr. Jan Kucera officiating. Burial will be later in Fairmont cemetery with Military Honors.
Friends may visit and share stories on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.
