Charles E. Sherman, 71, of Bucyrus, formerly of Tiffin, died Tuesday evening, November 17, 2009, at his home.
October 8, 1938, he was born in Bascom to the late Carl E. and Hazel (Wright) Sherman. On December 24, 1960, he married Carol E. Stover.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carol of Bucyrus, two sons, Chuck (Debbie) Sherman Jr. of Madison, IN, Steven (Diana) Sherman of Bucyrus, three daughters, Theresa (Samuel) Smith of Shelby, Victoria (Verlin 'Mike') Thacker of Tiffin, and Marianne Sherman of Hanover, IN, five brothers, Marion (Barbara) Sherman of Avon Lake, Jerry (Dotti) Sherman of Bloomville, Ronald Sherman of Elyria, Walter (Frances) Sherman and Rick Sherman both of Tiffin, three sisters, Laura Jean Ritter of Tucson, AZ, Melba (Vince) Lucius of Tiffin and Karen (Tom) Schubach of Green Springs, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Charles was a 1956 graduate of Republic High School and was a member of Our Master's Chapel in Benton. He proudly served in the US Army from 1956-1964. Charlie retired from Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria in 1991. He volunteered for SCAT then worked for Mercy Hospital of Tiffin where he was known as 'Charlie the van driver' until he retired in 2008. He enjoyed driving around and taking the scenic route. He moved from Tiffin to Bucyrus four years ago. Charlie enjoyed his kids, grandkids, working on lawn mowers, talking to everyone and was a friend to all.
His Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, November 23, 2009 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424, with Pastor Charles McGlone officiating. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Garden with Military Graveside services conducted by the United Veteran's Council.
Friends may visit with the family 1-4 & 6-8 Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home.
