Rev. Dr. Clifford G. Farmer, 82, of Tiffin, died Wednesday evening, January 21, 2009, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical, Toledo.
July 28, 1926, he was born in Lisbon, to Clifford Y. and Ruth Ona (Baird) Farmer. June 4, 1947, he married Wilma L. Fire in St. Jacob Church, Lisbon.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of Tiffin, a son, Chris L. Farmer of Dover, a daughter, Shannon (Randall) Wallick of Columbia, SC, a brother, Paul W. (Janice) Farmer of Evansville, IN, a sister, Martha L. Post of Cleveland, six grandchildren, Justine, Kendall, Zach, Brandi, Arlo and Guss and a great-grandchild, Dominic.
Preceding him in death along with his parents are a son, Fr. Bruce L. Farmer on January 2, 2007, and a sister, Hazel M. Farmer.
Rev. Dr. Clifford graduated from Heidelberg College, Eden Seminary in St. Louis, MO,where he was ordained in 1950 and received his Doctorate in 1978. He served 41 years as a minister for United Church of Christ in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Heidelberg Alumni Association and was a loyal supporter of Heidelberg music and athletics. Clifford was active in denominational affairs, was president of Habitat for Humanity for 16 years, past president of Family Counseling Services, served 10 year on the Board of Directors and 3 years as president of Crossroads in Fort Wayne, IN. He was past Board Member for 6 years of Uplands Retirement Village in Pleasant Hill, TN. He was a Board Member of St. Francis and volunteered in many capacities for area boards.
A Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Trinity United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Louis Dorsch officiating. Burial will follow in St. Jacob Cemetery, Leetonia.
Friends may visit with the family 4-8 PM, Friday, January 23, 2009 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424.
Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, Heidelberg College Alumni Association, Habitat for Humanity, Eden Seminary or St. Francis Senior Ministries.
