Clifford "Cliff" A. Jennings, 86 of Tiffin and formerly of Port Clinton, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 6, 2011 at his home.
On November 28, 1924, in Oak Harbor, OH, he was born to Alvin & Clara (Pearla) Jennings. He married Helen L. Heiser on April 26, 1947 and she preceded him in death in 2001. He later married Margarette E. (Elchert) Hoerig on February 3, 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Margaiette; son, Jim (Linda) Jennings of Parker, CO; daughter, Pat (Dennis) Bork of Akron, OH; 6 stepsons, Rick Hoerig and Daniel (Carol) Hoerig, both of Fostoria, OH, Michael (Theresa) Hoerig, Kevin (Teresa) Hoerig and Chris (Dawn) Hoerig all of Tiffin, OH, and Steven (Trisha) Hoerig of Findlay, OH; 4 Stepdaughters, Diana (Jim) Omlor, Teresa (Marty) McQuistion and Nancy Fleming all of Tiffin, OH and Cheryl Burns of Texas; 2 sisters, Marjorie Geasland of Michigan and Dorothy Cromer of Sandusky, OH; 4 grandchildren, David McGuckin, Tiffany Few, Chad McGuckin and Adam McGuckin; 7 great-grandchildren; 34 step grandchildren and 34 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Helen, stepson, Larry Hoerig; brothers, Oliver, Fred and Norman Jennings; sister, Virginia Parkins; step grandson, Andrew Omlor and step great granddaughter, McKayla Reinhart.
Cliff served in WWII from 1943 to 1946. He was one of the first Americans in Hiroshima after the Atomic bomb was dropped. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and retired in 1987, as an inventory controller and machine operator, from Ford Motor Company in Sandusky, OH after thirty years. He was a Bay Twp. Trustee and a part-time farmer in Bay Twp. He was a Boy Scout leader for five years and was a member of the Port Clinton V.F.W. Post 2480, serving in the Honor Guard for years. Cliff enjoyed boating for over 30 years, fishing at Lake Erie and was a very happy guy who always had a smile.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to mass. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Port Clinton, OH with military honors being conducted by the Port Clinton V.F.W. Post 2480.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 2-4:00 P.M. and 6-8:00 P.M. at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419)447-2424. A Christian Wake service will begin at 1:30 PM. .
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care and Autumnwood Care Center Activities Fund.
