IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cora Jean
(Lynch) Lutz
March 30, 1927 – May 9, 2024
Cora "Jean" Lutz, 97, formally of Old Fort, was called home to be with Jesus on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Crystal Care Center in Mansfield, Ohio.
Born on March 30, 1927, Jean was the seventh of ten home births to the late Warren P. and Eurie M. (Feasel) Lynch. She was one of just five 1945 graduates from Bettsville High School. Afterwards, she began nurses training with the cadet corps in Toledo, but later quit to marry returning war veteran, and the love of her life, William "Bill" Lutz at the Salem United Methodist Church in Bettsville, OH on January 19th, 1947. They had four children, Richard (Judy) Lutz of Colorado, Susan Lutz of Michigan, Bruce (Sue) Lutz of Wisconsin and Amy (Mario) Lutz-Castellanos of Ohio who all survive. Bill and Jean were blessed with 9 grandchildren-Ricky, Holly, Andrew, Shelley, Heather, Jolie, Mara, Joseph and Jana, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
After building their family, 50 years later, they were remarried in the same Bettsville church with her brother Bob officiating the ceremony, her sister Shirley and cousin Jane serving as bridesmaids for the second time, all four children standing with them as witnesses and several grandchildren present. Jean wore her original wedding dress. Jean's dream of nursing was never lost. At 40 + years, she enrolled in the Bowling Green Area School of Practical Nursing and graduated, president of her class, in August 1969. She continued her career until retiring from Mercy Hospital in Tiffin.
Jean was always active, using her time and talent to serve at community and church events, as a cub scout leader, election worker and food kitchen volunteer. She was an avid flower gardener, loved baking and was especially known for her delicious pies and carrot cake. She attended the Old Fort Methodist Church and was active in the Women's Club. Some of her fondest memories were traveling with her husband, Bill, camping, canoeing, hiking, and fishing. They traveled to most of the 50 states and made several trips to Canada and South America. One of their favorite adventures was a month-long, cross-country trip to Alaska.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill Lutz, three brothers, Robert
Bob" (Vonnie) Lynch, Richard "Dick" Lynch, Jack (Betty) Lynch, and three sisters, Alice Bushman, Beulah (Frank) Dumm, and Hazel (Joe) Hanson. A brother, Bill Lynch from Kentucky and a sister, Shirley Burkart from Fostoria, survive.
