Cynthia J. 'Jean' Hammond, 83, formerly of 88 Sycamore St., Tiffin,
died, Friday morning, December 19, 2008 at Hospice of the Valley, Friendship Village, Tempe, AZ.
Born May 9, 1925, in Middletown, to the late Orville and Helen Ida (Fry) Clifford, she was raised by her uncle and aunt, the late Walter and Ethel O'Brien. August 25, 1947, she married Walter E. Hammond in Springfield.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Walter, of Chandler, AZ, two sons, Brian (Karen) Hammond of Troy, John Todd (Candace) Hammond of Chandler, AZ, a daughter, Cyndi (Lou) Bellerose-McAfee, of Columbus, two brothers, Robert Pearce of Clearwater, Florida, Donald Carney of Inglewood, three sisters, Pat Caruthers, Louise Day, Jane Dixon, 5 grandsons, 5 granddaughters, and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her aunt and uncle, Walter and Ethel O'Brien.
Jean was a 1943 graduate of Springfield High School. She was a member of United Commercial Travelers and enjoyed golfing, bowling, as well as the Cincinnati Bengal's and the Cincinnati Red's.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1pm, Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family 10am to12:45pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 2525 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, AZ., 85282.
