June 4, 1936 – March 9, 2017
Dean E. Distel, Sr., 80, of Tiffin, went home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, March 9, 2017 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital.
He was born on June 4, 1936, in Tiffin, Ohio to Edward and Hilda (Smith) Distel. On June 22, 1957, he married LaDonna Blust.
Survivors include his wife, LaDonna of Tiffin; four sons, Dean (Theresa) Distel, Jr. of Tiffin, Timothy (Janet) Distel of Champlin, MN, Joseph (Sheila) Distel and Alan (Alicia) Distel, both of Findlay; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Dolores, Herbert, Paul and Bernice; granddaughter, Lydia Sue Distel; and grandson-in-law, Ben Miller.
Dean was a man of great faith. He loved the Lord with his whole heart and he demonstrated that love to all who knew him. He helped anyone who needed help and was always willing to help his fellow man. He loved his wife, Donna with every fiber of his being. He loved his family and spending time with them gave him great joy! Dean and Donna celebrated 59 years of marriage in July of 2016.
Dean graduated in 1955 from Tiffin Calvert High School and later from Tiffin University. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958 and was based in Tacoma, WA. In 1999, he retired as an accountant for American Standard. He was a member of Living Hope Foursquare Church, Fostoria where he was an elder and pillar. Dean was very active in the community and was also a member of the Tiffin Lions Club, Allen Eiry Center and he was a founding member of the R.O.M.E.O. Club, where he usually showed up on his motorcycle. He loved to fish, play pool, make stained glass projects and in 1968, he won the Knights of Columbus state doubles bowling tournament with Jack Houck.
His Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Kevin Rusk officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-5:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the funeral home.
