Delbert J. Nye, 82, of Alvada, died Monday, May 31, 2010, at Fremont Memorial Hospital.
On February 25, 1928, he was born in Alvada to Cyril and Germaine (Gosche) Nye. On April 22, 1950, he married Alice V. Schalk in St. Boniface Church, New Riegel.
Survivors include four sons, Lenny C. Nye of Tiffin; Ed D. (Diane) Nye of Carey; Gary M. (Karen) Nye and Jayme A. (Diane) Nye, both of New Riegel; two daughters, Janice (Greg) Russell of Port Clinton; and Pat (Matt) Theis of Findlay, two brothers, Don (Edna) Nye of New Riegel; and Richard (Rosie) Nye of Alvada; six sisters, Mary Lou (Luke) Weinandy of Carey; Idella Reinhart, Eloise (Lewis) Reinhart, both of Fostoria; Donna (Gene) Wagner of Alvada; Theresa (Ralph) Szablewski of Tiffin; and Sharon (Marvin) Hohman of New Riegel; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death along with his parents and wife, Alice on November 2, 2001; are two brothers, Cyril Jr., and Carl Nye; and two sisters, Berneida Lichtle and Shirley Daniel.
Delbert was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Peter Chapel, New Riegel Moose Lodge 872 and a former member of Coon Hunters Lodge. He started as a bricklayer in 1960, working for Theis Construction. Later he was part owner of Schalk/Nye Masonry for 10 years, retiring in 1993. He was a 50 year member of Bricklayer and Allied Craftworkers. He farmed all of his life and enjoyed hunting and walleye fishing on Lake Erie. He enjoyed making cider and talking to people in his basement, 'the trap'
His Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Friday June 4, 2010 at All Saints Parish, St. Peter Chapel, Alvada, with Rev. Randy Giesige officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Alvada.
Friends may visit with the family 2-8 PM, Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424.
Memorial contributions can be made to Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure or to All Saints Parish, St. Peter Chapel.
