Obituary

Irene Althaus, 90, of Tiffin, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026 in the Emergency Room at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital.

She was born on December 28, 1935, in Paulding County, to Joseph Kenneth and Thelma E. (Rothenbuhler) Ault. On January 14, 1956, in Wayne, Ohio, she married Ronald G. Althaus and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Deborah L. Althaus of Tiffin, Kevin R. (Lisa) Althaus of Tiffin and Rodney A. (Jennifer) Althaus of Port Clinton; sister, Sharon L. Fisher of Winter Haven, FL; four grandchildren, Ashley, Kayla, Andrew and Kelly; and nine great grandchildren, Laela, Olivia, Braelyn, Kane, Phoenix, Khloe, Elliott, Edison and Hadley.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth E. Ault; sister, Lois M. Lippert; and step sister, Bonnie Everding.

Irene graduated in 1953 from Fostoria High School at the age of 17. While in high school, she was a cheerleader. After graduating high school, she worked as a dental assistant. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, and lifetime member of the AmVets Ladies Auxiliary at Post 48 and the VFW Auxiliary Post 2858. Irene was a Cleveland Browns fan, enjoyed playing backgammon, and working on puzzles. Most of all, Irene loved spending time with the love of her life, Ron, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Dr. Jan Kucera officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Seneca County, Ottawa County Sheriff Dive Team or to the Allen Eiry Senior Center.
