Obituary

Dominic J. Bursa, 88, of Tiffin, passed away Monday morning, April 21, 2014 at Regency Hospital in Toledo.

He was born on June 16, 1925, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Ambrose and Justina (Druska) Bursa. On November 28, 1946, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, he married Rita Burkart.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Rita, of Tiffin; 2 sons, Steve (Nancy) Bursa of Perrysburg and David (Ginny) Bursa of Tiffin; 3 daughters, Carol (Bob) Parker of Bucyrus; Ann (Scott) Gregory of Huntsville, AL and Jill (Rich) Oblizajek of Sylvania; 2 sisters, Mary Miller and Helen Bursa, both of Tiffin; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Joseph Bursa; and sisters, Antonia Bursa, Agnes Ely and infant sister, Appalonia Bursa; and infant granddaughter, Madeline Oblizajek.

Dominic graduated from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1943 and was in the United States Army from October 21, 1943 to January 17, 1946 during World War II and the Battle of the Bulge. During the War, he parachuted into Holland with the 82nd Airborne. When they came home on The Queen Mary, the 82nd Airborne paraded ten miles down Fifth Ave. in New York City in thanksgiving for being the most decorated outfit of the United States Army. Upon passing St. Patrick's Cathedral, the outfit was blessed by Cardinal Spelman. In 1985, he retired as a rotor assembler at General Electric after 39 years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he enjoyed volunteering for Bingo for over 12 years. Dominic was also a member of the American Legion Post 169 and he enjoyed golfing and bowling and he belonged to many area leagues. He also enjoyed wintering in Florida for years, was a big Boston Red Sox and Notre Dame fan, he loved animals and feeding birds and squirrels.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:30 A.M. on Saturday at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.
