Obituary

Donald "Don" W. Fortner Sr., 70, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 7, 2013 at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.

He was born on January 19, 1943 in Indiana to Wayne and Mary (Russell) Fortner. He married Katherine Appleton on December 16, 1974 and she preceded him in death on December 31, 2003. On April 12, 2008, he married Julieanne Snyder and she survives in Tiffin.

Survivors include his wife, sons, Donald W. (Julie) Fortner Jr. of Cincinnati, OH, David W. (Rebecca) Fortner of Normal, IL, step sons, Tony (Patricia) Hart of Kenton OH; Paul (Sheri) Myers of Fremont, Bruce (Stacie) Myers of Toledo, Matt Myers of Columbus; step daughters, Amy (Dan) Traxler of Tiffin, Anne (Lee) Luzader of Tiffin; brother, Ronald (Sandy) Fortner of Ravenswood, WV; and 18 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Katherine, step son, Jerry Hart and a brother, Arnold Fortner.

Don was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and worked at Ball Metal in Findlay as an electrician for 35 years retiring in 2008. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1961 in the Submarine Service as a Polaris Missile Tech being honorably discharged in 1970. He enjoyed traveling, camping, motor home trips, vacationing to Florida and the Smoky Mountains, photography, boating, motorcycles, skydiving, and was a NASCAR and Indiana Hoosier Basketball fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Where military honors will be conducted by the United Veteran's Council. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will begin at 8:00 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Heart Association or the Diabetes Association.
