Donald E. "Gene" Echelberry, 85, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday evening, September 27, 2012 at his home.

He was born on August 14, 1927 in Republic, Ohio, to Donald and Dorothy (Fugitt) Echelberry. He married Marilyn Bahl in 1961 and she preceded him in death in 1980.

Survivors include his care giver, Susie (Steve) Smith of Old Fort; and close friends, Christy (Randy) Wiser and their children, Olivia Wiser and Abigail Wiser-Young, Jeff (Amanda) Smith and their children, Mitchell and Jacob Smith, Dick Runion and Wayne Coffman, all of Tiffin.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Gene was a member of the United States Army Air Corp. from March 28, 1946 to September 27, 1947, serving in World War II. He worked at several car dealers around Tiffin for many years and also at Early Country Antique Shop in downtown Tiffin for over 13 years. He enjoyed antiquing and dogs, especially his best friend, Zoe. Gene was a very simple man and good hearted.

A graveside service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Fairmont Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca County Humane Society.
