Donald R. Hartsel, 84, of Tiffin, died Saturday March 22, 2008 at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
On March 31, 1923 in Cleveland he was born to Guy and Gertrude (Brody) Hartsel. He married Winifred "Winnie" Schoepe on May 3, 1946 in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cleveland.
Survivors include his wife Winnie, of 61 years, 5 sons, Don (Prapit) Hartsel Jr. of Arlington, TX; Tim (Dorothy) Hartsel of Greenville, NC; David (Barb) Hartsel, Guy Hartsel, and Scott (Vicki) Hartsel all of Tiffin; 2 daughters, Karen (Denny) Miller of Tiffin; Vennetta Mullins (Steve Altmeyer) of Sycamore; sister, Mary Woodman of Cleveland; 18 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Mr. Hartsel was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joseph, Paul, and Richard Hartsel, great granddaughter, Alyssa Vivino and great grandson, Kael Miller.
Don was a graduate of West Tech. High School in Cleveland and later moved to Tiffin in 1960 with his family to start Stacy Equipment where he continued to work even after retiring. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin and Tiffin Moose Lodge 846, he enjoyed sports especially golfing, bowling, baseball and softball. Don volunteered as an advisor for the Explorer's group, past president of Babe Ruth Baseball League and former member of the Tiffin's Lion Club, Elk Lodge 94, and Eagles Aerie 402.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, March 28, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed at the church at 9:45. Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, March 27, 2008 from 4-8 PM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home 419-447-2424. A Wake service will be at 3:30 PM at the funeral home on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
