Obituary

Donald Shofstahl, 86, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday evening, March 10, 2013 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center, after losing a 15 year battle to cancer.

He was born on January 25, 1927 in Edinburg, Pa., to John E. and Gussie F. (Wingard) Shofstahl. He married Theresa V. Magers on April 11, 1959 and she survives.

Also surviving are 3 nieces, Doris Elaine (Marty) McFerren and Janice Chinell- Smith both of Tiffin and Sharon (Claude) Frankart of Mason; step-sister, Joyce Curtis of Northwood; and godchild, Owen Donaldson of Seminole, Fl.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, John C. Shofstahl; 2 sisters, Doris P. Chinell and Ruth Anna Wepler; and niece, Karen Wepler.

Donald served in the Merchant Marines (Navy), from 1944-1946, during WWII enlisting during his senior year at Columbian High School. Later he served in the U.S. Air Force, from 1950-1954, during the Korean War. Donald formerly co-owned the luncheonette in the 50's and 60's later working for Wagner Realty. He was a private pilot and enjoyed flying throughout the midwest, refinishing furniture chair caning and was also a member of the Moose Lodge #846.

His funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice of Fremont, Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center or the charity of the donor's choice.
