Obituary

Donald G. Steyer, 84, of rural New Riegel, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, July 31, 2016 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born on February 17, 1932, in rural Tiffin, to Albert and Frances (Lenhart) Steyer. He married Charlene Rall on August 11, 1956 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky and she preceded him in death May 12, 2013.

Survivors include seven children, Marjorie (Jim) Steinmetz, Jr. and Julie (Curtis) Heidler, both of Tiffin, John (Lisa) Steyer, Ed Steyer, and David Steyer, all of New Riegel, Jane (Jason) Trausch of Carey and Dennis (Regina) Steyer, of Sycamore; 14 grandchildren, Sarah (Adam) Kleinfelter, Anthony Steinmetz and Stephen (Hannah) Steinmetz, Christina (Troy) Breidenbach, Lee (Kelly) Cleland, Nicole Goshe, Becka (Mason Correll) and Allysa Heidler, Katie, Megan, Jackie and Logan Trausch and Kaci and Lukas Steyer; 11 great grandchildren; Brenten, Bradley and Brody Kleinfelter, Riley Steinmetz, Bailey and Brook Breidenbach, Kennedy and Briella Cleland and Gracie, Reese and Marlie Goshe; three step grandchildren, Nathan (Shannon) Beaston, Shay Miller and Ali Stauffer; six step great-grandchildren, Kain, Jaylin, Kelan, Trasyn, Braughn and Korryn Beaston; sister, Pearl Nye; and two brothers, Leon (Janice) Steyer and Norman (Pat) Steyer; sister-in-law, Rita Bricely; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Also preceding him in death were his oldest daughter, Catherine, who died at age 14 in 1972 of juvenile diabetes; his parents, Albert and Frances Steyer and 12 other siblings, Albert Steyer, Jr., Francis (Helen) Steyer, Geraldine (George, John) Clouse, Howard (Mae) Steyer, Wilfred (Mary) Steyer, Richard (Rita) Steyer, Edward Steyer, Agnes (Ralph) Brickner, Marguerite (Gerald) Coleman, Bernard Steyer, Mary (Don) Etchen and Bernadine (Hubert) Gosche.

Mr. Steyer was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, New Riegel, Knights of Columbus, New Riegel American Legion, was a Korean War Veteran, a 4-H advisor and attended The Ohio State University. He was a lifelong farmer and factory laborer for many years.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who could always make him smile right to the very end, as well as big family gatherings, gardening, euchre with relatives in earlier days and solitaire, crosswords and reading books in later years.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 5, 2016 at All Saints Parish, New Riegel with Rev. Timothy Kummerer. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. The New Riegel American Legion will do a walk through at 7:45 P.M.
