Obituary

Doris Pocock Abbott, 99, of Tiffin, Ohio passed away on Thursday afternoon, July 24, 2014.

Doris was born on April 10, 1915 in Cleveland, Ohio to Herman Deidler Pocock, M.D., Sr. and Esta Dee Crowl. On June 29, 1940, she married Henry Lyman Abbott, M.D. (1916-1978) of Tiffin.

Doris graduated from Shaw High School in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Cleveland Art School for two years. She was the oldest surviving member of Old Trinity Episcopal Church. Through the years she served on the Vestry as well as holding the positions of president of the Episcopal Church Women and treasurer of the Altar Guild. In her later years, she immensely enjoyed her Monday sewing group. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital, helped with Mobile Meals on Wheels, and supported Friends of Tiffin-Seneca Public Library and Heidelberg University. Doris enjoyed Tiffin's Penthouse Club and was a bridge player.

Surviving are two children, Suzanne Abbott Wade ( William Wade, D.V.M.) of Seaford, Delaware, and John Lyman Abbott (Margaret) of Chalfont, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, James Wade, Katherine Abbott Cutler, and Leigh Abbott Lowman; and five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kiersten, Michael, Elizabeth, and Chase.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Herman D. Pocock, Jr., M.D; and sisters, Eloise Alden and Betty Pickford.

Her funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Old Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Aaron Gerlach officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort.

Friends may visit from 5-7:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Hoffman-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Old Trinity Episcopal Church, Community Hospice Care, Tiffin Charitable Foundation, or the Dr. Henry L. Abbott Memorial Fund at Heidelberg University.
