Edna C. Fretz, 93, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday evening, June 11, 2013, at home, surrounded by her family.
She was born October 4, 1919 in Warren, Ohio to J. Glenn and M. Louise (Hucke) Hess. On February 18, 1939 in St. Joseph Catholic Church Rectory she married George A. Fretz, Sr. and he preceded her in death on October 6, 2007.
Survivors include her three sons, George A. (Kayleen) Fretz, Jr., Tom (Barb) Fretz Sr., and Rick (Sue) Fretz, all of Tiffin; daughter, Janet (James) Wise of Tiffin; 16 grandchildren, Cindy (Jack) Kinser, George A. (Deb) "Skip" Fretz, III, Cathy (Denny Factor) Smith, John (Diana) Fretz, Chris (Marissa) Fretz, Joseph (Laurie) Fretz, Terri Fretz, Steve (Deb) Wise, Mike (Margaret) Wise, Ron (Sue) Wise, Tim (Tina Elchert) Wise, Thomas (Amy J.) Fretz, Jr., Amy S. Fretz, Ryan (Amanda) Fretz, Anna Fretz, and Gregory Fretz; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Irene (Russell) Martorana and Audrey Horn, both of Tiffin.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; grandson, Jeff Fretz; 4 brothers, Bob, Dwayne, Arthur and John Hess; and sister, Eileen Stanton.
Edna was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Rosary Altar Society, volunteered in the school cafeteria and at the festival and was a member of the Know Your Neighbor Club. She enjoyed needlework, sewing, puzzles, listening to country music and vacationing in Florida. Her family enjoyed her rice krispies treats, lima beans and fruit salad. Family was very important to Edna; she never missed a birthday and attended every sporting event for her children and grandchildren. Edna was dedicated to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 17, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters and Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Garden. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.
Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will begin at 3:30.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph or St. Mary Catholic Church, Calvert Catholic Schools or Community Hospice Care.
