Obituary

Edwin R. "Ed" Golik, 81, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday evening, December 28, 2014 at The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.

On May 30, 1933 in Martinsburg, NY, he was born to Joseph J. and Estella (Gorczyca) Golik. He married Georgia A. Backus on May 9, 1953 in Utica, NY and she preceded him in death in 2001.

Survivors include sons, Steven (Teresa) Golik of Andover, KS; Richard (Beth) Golik of Avon, OH; daughters, Pamela (Keith) Johnston of Decatur, IL; Kimberly (Ward) Whitmer of Tiffin; brother, Donald (Cathy) Golik of Berkeley Springs, WV; sister, Sandra (Don) Tarca of Jupiter, FL; sister-in-law, Marcia Golik of Utica, NY; 11 grandchildren, Kristen (Jerry), Kara, Kylie, Todd (Sabrina), Tracy (Jeremy), Ashley (Matt), Tara, Aaron, Andrew, Benjamin and Samuel; two step grandchildren, Jodi and Gregory; five great grandchildren, Gracyn, Colton, Easton, Nolan, and Kellan; and nine step great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Golik; two great grandchildren, Kieryn and Bridget; and a special friend, June Streeval.

Ed was a member and Elder of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1951 and from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute, both in Utica, NY. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1955. Ed worked for General Electric in Decatur, IL and moved his family to Tiffin in the mid 70's to work for Ameriwood and retired as a Project Acoustical Engineer after 22 years. He will be remembered for his inventions, gardening, woodworking, and his meticulous yard.

His funeral service will be Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Jan Kucera officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Friends may visit and share stories with the family on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 2-4:00 P.M. and 6-8:00 P.M. at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH; (419)447-2424.
