Eugene J. "Gene" Hohman, 78, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday morning, March 31, 2016 at St. Francis Home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
He was born on April 25, 1937, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Vincent W. and Lauretta (Hoover) Hohman. On January 30, 1960, he married Mary Lou Zoll in St. Joseph Catholic Church officiated by Rev. James Steinle.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou of Tiffin; two sons, Randall J. (Vici Legg) Hohman of Tiffin and Brian W. (Coanne Schrenk) Hohman of St. Joseph, MI; two daughters, Brenda M. (Tom) Schultz of Westlake and Anita A. (Robert) Wagner of Ft. Mitchell, KY; two sisters, Janet (Henry "Butch") Sauber of Tiffin and Marilyn Shiflet of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Diane Hohman of Tiffin; 9 grandchildren, Bill (Mykel Weber) Hohman, Alex Schultz, Danielle Hohman, Carter Hohman, Andrew Wagner, Nicholas Wagner, Tim (Miranda Alt) Heibertshausen, Jenny Heibertshausen and Michelle (Jay) Gullett; and 4 great grandchildren, Delvie Heibertshausen, Cody Heibertshausen, Bailey Alt and Grayson Alt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Harold Hohman in 1990
Gene graduated in 1955 from Tiffin Calvert High School, was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church and retired in 1990 from the Tiffin City Fire Department after 25 years. Gene and his brother, Harold were co-owners of Hohman Construction for 45 years, after joining their father. Gene was also part-owner and developer of Hillcrest, Meadow Lake Acres and Forest Hills Subdivisions and was a lifetime member of the Tiffin Eagles #402. He enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, Germany and Ireland and also pastimes such as golfing and woodworking. He appreciated God's natural creations, especially beautiful sunsets and skies.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-8:00 P. M. on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 1:30 P.M.
