Obituary

Evelyn Marie "Evie" Houck, 85, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning, January 18, 2026, at Saint Francis Home.

Evie was born April 11, 1940, in Tiffin to Russell H. and Marion V. (Woodruff) Hottenstein. She married John W. "Jack" Houck on January 24, 1959.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter Hottenstein; infant sisters, Clara, and Janet.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; children, Michelle Marie "Micky" (Matthew) Distel, of Tiffin, Rebecca Lee "Becky" (Derek) Hassinger, of Tiffin, Michael John (Barbara) Houck, of Maumee, Suzanne Marie (David) Betz, of Ann Arbor, MI, Anne Elizabeth (Norman) Ratterman, of Marion; sister-in-law, Pat Hottenstein; 17 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.

Family was a priority and source of special pride for Evie. Together, Jack and Evie enjoyed their children's school activities, and their fondest memories are of raising their kids. Lead by Jack, the family built the house of her dreams on Lake Mohawk. Grandma's house was the highlight of the grandchildren's, then, great grandchildren's summer, where they would gather for "Camp Mohawk", experiencing a different theme each summer. Evie enjoyed family vacations of travelling the US, camping, and wintering in Florida during February.

Evie lived a rich life through service to her community and faith through numerous volunteer roles. She was a troop leader and a founding member of the Archives and History Committee for Erie Shores Girl Scouts. She was a docent at Seneca County Museum. A member of Fort Ball Antique Club, Tiffin Mother of Twins Club, Saint Joan of Arc Mother's Study Club, Women ACT (Acclaiming Christ Together) Committee, a founding member of Saint Mary Women's Choir, as well as a lector at Saint Mary Catholic Church.

Friends may visit with the family 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 24, 2026, their 67th wedding anniversary, at 10 A.M., at St Mary Catholic Church, 85 S. Sandusky St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church.
