Obituary

Evelyn M. Popenberg, 92, of Alvada, died Saturday morning, August 15, 2009 at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.

On March 29, 1917 in Tiffin, she was born to Marcus J. and Corinne (Hessberger) Mangett. She married John V. "Vincent" Popenberg on May 26, 1943 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on January 7, 1981.

Survivors include sons, John A. (Linda) Popenberg, Mark V. (Charlene) Popenberg, and Charles M. (Karen) Popenberg all of Alvada; daughters. Mary Jane Dible and Madonna Parks, both of Tiffin; Geralyn (Daniel) Bodart of Fostoria; Paula (Bill) Kuhn of Alvada; sister-in-law Arlene Thiel of Cleveland;brother in law, Harold Neikirk of Oklahoma City, OK; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death is her parents, husband Vincent, son Andrew Joseph Popenberg, brother, Lt. Marcus L. Mangett, sisters, Kathryn Curns, Madeline Dryfuse, Lucille Mehling, Mary Alice Neikirk, infant sister Mirian Mangett, and granddaughter, Kimberly Popenberg.

Evelyn was a 1935 Tiffin Calvert High School graduate and she attended Tiffin Business College. She was a member of All Saint Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel, Frenchtown where she was involved in the Rosary Altar Society, and she was the organist there for 20 years. She was an advocate for Ohio Right to Life and involved in Heartbeat of Tiffin. Evelyn was a farmers wife, who enjoyed playing bingo, and she will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30am, Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at All Saint Parish, St. Nicholas Chapel, Frenchtown, with Rev. Randy Giesige officiating. Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will be at a later date in St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery, Frenchtown.

Friends may visit with the family 4-8pm, Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will be at 8pm at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Right to Life or to Cancer Patient Services of Hancock County.
