Evelyn L. Race, 81, of Tiffin, passed away Monday evening, September 5, 2011, at her residence.

She was born December 9, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to George & Lucille (Gedert) Lenhart. She married Pete Race on November 25, 1954 and they later divorced, but remained good friends and he preceded her in death in 2006.

Surviving are two sons; John (Carol) Race of Eagle Bend, MN and Tony Race of St. Louis, MO; two daughters, Laurie (Dan) Reinhart of Carey, OH and Teresa (Tim) Hess of Tiffin, OH; one brother, Francis J. Lenhart of Berkey, OH; two sisters, Virginia L. Wysong of Berkey, OH and Eileen A. (Joe) Casper of Moravia, NY; nine grandchildren, Joshua, Adam, Chiara, Andrea and Felicia Race, Ted and Julie Reinhart, Jeremiah Hess and Michelle (Jason Kotlinski) Hess; two great-grandchildren, Vinnie & Cole.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Zachariah Hess.

Evelyn was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Rosary Alter Society. She was a 1948 graduate of St. Ursula Academy High School, where she was Valedictorian. In 1952, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mary Manse College. She was a teacher's aide at New Riegel Schools from 1978 to 1987. Evelyn had a strong political awareness and enjoyed reading. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed spending time at Lake Erie.

A mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 10, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 P.M., Friday, September 9, 2011 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419)447-2424. A Christian Wake service will begin at 7:00 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Calvert Catholic Schools.
