Obituary

Rev. Thomas W. Kuhn, 77, of Tiffin, died Thursday morning December 4, 2008 at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.
On March 7, 1931 in Tiffin, he was born to Albert and Hubertine (Mueller) Kuhn.
Survivors include two brothers, George (Virginia) Kuhn and John (Dorothy Mae) Kuhn both of Tiffin, a sister Elizabeth Ann Kuhn of San Diego, CA, many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Albert "Pete" Kuhn and a sister, Kathleen Sexton.
Upon graduating from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1949 he entered seminary training for the priesthood at St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. He attended Xavier University, Miami University, Notre Dame University, University of San Francisco and graduated from the University of California, Berkley. Rev. Kuhn held many degrees in Theology, Philosophy and Secondary Education Administration. He was ordained on May 25, 1957 in the Diocese of Toledo and was assigned to St. John Parish in Delphos from 1957-1965 as pastor, principal, director of athletics and as director of drama.
In 1965 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Chaplain's School and retired 27 years later with the rank of Captain. Throughout his military career, he served in the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan and many locations in the United States, including Washington D.C. and Hawaii where he was the Fleet Chaplain, Commander in Chief U.S. Pacific Fleet. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he was appointed Pastor at St. Bernard and Mother of Sorrow Parish in North Auburn, OH until his retirement in 1997.
On Monday, December 8, 2008 at 6:30 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, a Ceremony of Reception of the Body and Vespers will take place with visitation following until 9:00 PM.
On Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9:00-11:00 AM the body will lie in state for family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, at the church with Bishop Robert Donnelly officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Military honors conducted by the United Veteran's Council.
The family requests that friends join them after the burial on Tuesday, at Elizabeth Schaefer Apartments, for a time of luncheon and fellowship.
Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
At the request of the church and family, in lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Calvert Catholic Schools, St. Joseph Church, St. Francis Residents' Activity Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
