Frances A. Tomsey, 86, of Tiffin, died Thursday morning, May 7, 2009 at Volunteers of America, Autumnwood Care Center.
On May 22, 1922, she was born to Joseph and Rosa (Ruzek) Tomsey in Muscoda Township, Wisconsin.
Survivors include a brother Joseph Tomsey Jr. of Bascom, nieces and nephews, and her best friend and loyal caretaker, Cheryl (Randy) Hoover of Bascom and their children, Andrew and Jason Hoover of Tiffin.
Preceding her in death is a brother, Stanley Tomsey.
Frances graduated from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1941. She later graduated from St. Ann's Maternity Hospital in Columbus, on August 15, 1942. She graduated a Graduate Maternity Assistant degree, where she obtained an educational background in obstetrical and pediatric training. She worked in the nursery and labor delivery rooms at Mercy Hospital. Following graduation she served in the United States Navy during World War II, as a Pharmacist's Mate, 3rd Class from 1943 to 1946. Frances was mostly stationed at St. Albans Naval Hospital in Long Island, NY. She also worked for Dr. Quentin B. Smith in Tiffin for many years as a nurse assistant and office manager. She loved everything involving nature and animals, especially cats.
Graveside services will be 1:30pm, Friday, May 8, 2009 at Castalia Cemetery in Castalia.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to Seneca County Humane Society.
